Print Glass. Smooth It Clear—the Acrylic Filament Serious Makers Use.
PMMA — Poly(methyl methacrylate) — is the material behind acrylic glass and plexiglass. In its natural form, it's highly transparent, dimensionally stable, and one of the closest things to printing actual glass that FDM can achieve. Push Plastic's PMMA filament brings this material to your desktop printer in a generous 3kg spool — sized for production runs, large optical components, and makers who go through material fast.
What makes PMMA genuinely unique in the FDM filament lineup is its acetone smoothability. Like ABS, PMMA responds to acetone vapor smoothing — but the result here isn't just a smooth surface, it's an optically clear one. Post-processed PMMA prints can achieve a level of transparency that no amount of layer-height reduction alone can match. For light-transmitting applications, display components, or any print where clarity is the goal, that's a significant capability.
Note: PMMA requires a heated bed at 100–120°C and benefits from an enclosure to minimize warping. It prints at the higher end of standard extruder temperatures (230–250°C), making it compatible with most direct drive and bowden setups equipped for engineering materials.
Where optical clarity and glass-like properties open up new possibilities — perfect for:
- Light guides, lenses, and optical components requiring transparency
- Lamp shades, LED diffusers, and decorative lighting fixtures
- Display cases, product stands, and transparent enclosures
- Signage, illuminated lettering, and light-transmitting panels
- Architectural scale models requiring clear glazing details
- Medical and dental visualization models
- Protective covers and transparent shields as a glass replacement
- Any print that needs acetone smoothing to achieve true optical clarity
Printer Compatibility: Compatible with most 1.75mm FDM 3D printers with a heated bed capable of reaching 100–120°C. An enclosure is recommended for best results.
